"My kids see that I am truly interested in them and their lives. Although I was forced to give up my career because of my accident, I didn't give up on them or on life. My accident actually gave me the opportunity to really focus on my children. They have told me, 'Dad, we hate what happened to you, but you're a better Dad now than you were before your accident.' Wow!"

Home Career Highlights
Home Biz: The Cane Guy: A cane should be a fashion accessory, not a clumsy appendage. If you have to walk with a cane, it should enhance your image, not make you look and feel like you just fell out of an institution. My canes make great gifts for parents or grandparents who walk with a cane.

Primary Market: Baby boomers with aging parents.

Top Products:
  • Flashlight Cane: A walking cane which incorporates a flashlight into the handle as well as a rear-blinking safety light for walking at night, weith a "secret" storage compartment in the handle for medication.
  • Other stylish and affordable canes.
Testimonial:
  • One of my customers is an elderly lady who lives in the country. One evening, she was dropped off at home. She realized she had locked herself out of her house. With the aid of my Flashlight Cane, she was able to walk to a farmhouse down the road for assistance. She credits having my Flashlight Cane with helping to save her life.
Home Career Advice: Make sure there is a market for your product or service. Onc eyou have committed youself, spend at least a half an hour each day marketing your business, whether that is to write a letter, a press release or make phone calls. It all adds up.

A Voice of Experience

EP Motivating Force:
I was in a severe accident in 1992. While playing with my kids at the beach, I was hit by a wave and broke my neck and back. I have recovered from quadriplegia to walking with a cane. Starting a home business was my way of getting back into life again.

EP Highlight:
My greatest achievement has been to be working at all. When something happens to you like what has happened to me, you have a choice. You can quit, feel sorry for yourself and let life happen to you, or you can make life happen.

EP Advice:
Besides making sure there's really a market for your produce or service, I'd say involve your kids in your business. Make them feel a part of it. The lessons they get here will be with them for their entire life.

There are three kinds of people in this world, those who learn by experience, those who learn by the experiences of others, and those who never learn at all. Which one do you want to be? (My Dad used to say this all the time when we were kids!)
