Just about every EP has uttered that universal working parent
exclamation -- "I need a babysitter!"
For parents
of newborns to pre-schoolers who work at home, choosing the right
part-time childcare provider is often as critical as choosing
the right home business or home career. That's why the advice
of Judy
Lederman,
known as the "Childcare
Crusader,"
is so
often sought after.
Judy was inspired
to write her book, Searching for Mary Poppins: One Family's Quest
for Perfect Childcare, after enduring a series of over twenty-five childcare
situations for her three children. A former Vice President for
a large New York Public Relations agency, Judy has operated a
home office on and off since 1989. To write her book, she consulted
human resource professionals, detectives and psychologists designed
to help others learn about childcare. The book spans the gamut
from daycare centers to family care to au pairs, nannies and
babysitters.
"Most parents
are not trained managers," explains Judy, whose children
range in age from five to thirteen years. "Hiring childcare
help, maintaining them, knowing when to fire them: these are
challenges that anyone dealing with a childcare provider must
face. In an unregulated industry, where can parents turn? Most
states that require hairdressers and manicurists to have licenses
don't require the same from a childcare provider. That is deplorable."
Judith Lederman
has appeared on Oprah, Dateline NBC, Court TV, Fox News and in
the New York Times with her sage wisdom on childcare.
Judy Lederman
currently
lives in Ardsley-on-Hudson, NY with her husband and three children.
