- Home Career
Defining Moment: There have been so many moments that reinforced
my choice to work from home. Perhaps the 'defining' moment was
when I realized that I could juggle clients' work with the needs
of my family and still appear professional and polished.

Goal: I guess my main goal
for the upcoming year is to continue expanding my writing and
speaking career and to build the consulting side of my business.

A Voice of Experience
- EP Motivating
Force: I
actually hadn't planned to stay home (I totally bought into the
'superwoman' myth pervasive in the early 80s) but the minute
my first child was born in 1984, my fate was sealed! I did return
to work part-time for a few months when he was 7 months old and
loved the balance of it, but became pregnant with twins who were
born when my baby was only 17 months old. Haven't stepped foot
back in corporate America (except as a vendor!) since.
-
- EP Musings:
There is no doubt that we
traded financial security so one of us could be home with our
children. It hasn't been easy, but I don't regret it. When I
started working from home, telecommuting, flex-time, job-share,
etc. weren't options. If I could have negotiated a work arrangement
like this it would have been ideal. I think parents everywhere
should lobby for more flexible work options in the workplace.
-
- EP Advice: Don't expect everything to fall into place
perfectly right away. It takes time to develop a routine that
works and to adjust to the new demands on your time. Make sure
you negotiate an appropriate re-distribution of labor and household
chores with your spouse/partner/children so you can carve out
the time you need to devote to your new venture.

- Favorite Pastime:
I love cooking and exploring
ethnic cuisines (tough when you're trying to lose weight!), curling
up with a good mystery novel, and catching up on my sleep!
